A comprehensive, well planned and practical programme for the prevention of cardiovascular disease is a need of our times.
The scourge of non-communicable disease plagues humankind in the present era as never before, and evidence that it will adversely affect the indices of socioeconomics and quality of life are to be seen in every society.
The pooling of current knowledge will be a useful exercise which will help experts to fine tune their own preventive cardiology programmes. If this conference succeeds in highlighting the areas in which special emphasis is required in our geographical areas, it would have well served it’s purpose. What has worked or not worked must be significantly assessed so that our preventive programmes are constructed on a sound evidence base.
It is my ardent wish that this inaugural International Conference on Preventive Cardiology will become a beacon guiding us towards the goal of successful control of non-communicable disease with special emphasis on cardiac disease.
